Vacations

With the credit crunch, more and more people are going for cheap vacation. Believe it or not, cheap vacations have not gone the way of the dinosaur, nor will they ever. There are numerous ways in which such outings can be achieved, with a little planning and imagination.

Of course, one of the secrets is to forsake comfort. This is not to say that cheap vacations need be uncomfortable or unenjoyable, only that luxury amenities must be given up for sake of the almighty dollar. The two most expensive aspects to any trip are the accommodations and the travel expense; learning to find these at a vastly reduced price is the key to cheap vacations.

Accommodations that are of an inferior quality tend to follow suite in price. By going online and conducting research on lesser-known hotels and motels, hundreds of dollars will be saved that can be put into souvenirs or activities during the cheap vacation itself, or left in the bank back home. As well, there are other means of accommodation to be found, such as youth hostels (or even hostels for older people, likewise). In this case, while you may share a dormitory-type room with about twenty other people, the savings will reflect this. For instance, in Amsterdam, many of the youth hostels are under twenty euros per night (about $25).

As for the price of travel, you can be assured of a cheap vacation if you can arrange cheaper flights, passage by ferries or other boats, cars, or whatnot. Again, the more economical form of each of these choices can be found with a little research online or via a travel agent. However, as travel agents receive a commission for their help, it's behooves one to do their own homework.

Most cheap vacations still require flight, or at least are made easier when going by way of air. Probably the most economical flight tickets available -outside of becoming a travel agent to purchase your own tickets at a sharp discount, are flight vouchers. Flight vouchers are not tickets per se, but are promises of a flight at an indefinite date. There are a few companies on the market selling these, such as airtech.com. The way these work is you receive a written promise to receive a flight as soon as one is available. You may have to sleep in an airport, or stay overnight in a hotel if a flight's not available that day, but it's worth it in the money that is saved.

This is not to say that these are the only means to achieving cheap vacations, but they provide a good foothold into the type of thinking that makes for such endeavors. Other possibilities include online networking, in which one's own house can be exchanged for another person's home, as accommodation. Of course, this may be a bit risky, especially if it involves dealing with someone in another country, but with the proper precautions, it could be worth it.

As well, time shares are now a growing trend, with good reason. Also with cheap vacations in mind, collectives of people now pool their money to purchase condominiums or other structures that they can each utilize at different times of the year (some corporations also offer this opportunity as perks for their employees). For the great deal of convenience and joy that they bring, time shares are here to stay.

n the history of tourism and travel in general there have always been problems, whether they be of a catastrophic level or, more commonly, simple snags that may at times make you wish you'd not come in the first place. Hopefully these little problems that we must invariably face are not of such a nature that we board the plane or cruise ship back home while still in anger. Yet for these little snags there is an answer of sorts, all inclusive vacations.

All Inclusive Vacations

All inclusive vacations were designed with economy and luxury married to provide the top level of enjoyment, while defraying costs where possible, and eliminating unseen difficulties. This means that while you might pay for a vacation normally that is not an all inclusive vacation, you may arrive at your destination to learn that there is kayak rental, horseback riding and introductory lessons. There might be snowboarding when you thought it was a skiing-only slope, scuba diving, also with lessons, Para-sailing, and deep sea excursions. All of this is at extra cost, not to mention that your travel agent told you about none of this.

So the vacation just became a lot more expensive, especially as your children want to try every activity imaginable. An all inclusive vacation on the other hand, provides umbrella coverage for fun and entertainment. You will receive tickets for the show when Tony Bennett, Wayne Newton, or the ghost of "Ol' Blue Eyes" Frank Sinatra makes an appearance. No extra or hidden cost. You've already paid for it, so enjoy.

The full coverage of all inclusive vacations often runs over to more pedestrian. yet important, expenses like food and room service. Your food will be prepaid (which often means "all you can eat" at some resorts). Drinks, whether alcoholic or not, valets, even tips for the waiter after meals, are all pre-paid.

Of course the payment plans vary between different all inclusive vacation packages, and between different travel agents, so carefully discussing this with your travel agent is paramount. As well, it's best to remember the old adage "nothing is free" as truly, you are paying for all of the extra amenities, so if you're on a budget, the all inclusive vacations may not always be for you.

Further, as with all things, make sure you understand exactly what you're getting for your money, and get it all in writing. Unfortunately, every year there are complaints -no matter which type of travel package is chosen, in which something verbally promised is not received, which causes anger and resentment, which no one should have to have when they're trying to relax.

As well, sometimes "the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing" -that is, due to policy changes or lack of communication some aspect of a program or some service becomes extinct or modified. These things happen no matter what, but are less likely to happen with all inclusive vacations. Quite often, the cheapest vacation deals are find with all inclusive vacations and they should certainly not be overlooked.
